Jesse enjoys teaching guitarists of all ages (6-60) and levels.
Using his knowledge gained from 5 years experience
teaching guitar lessons and from his BA degree from
Berklee College of Music, Jesse can structure lessons for any
student's unique needs.
Beginners gain fundamental technique through learning their
favorite songs. As a student's musical personality emerges,
which is often very quickly, lessons are tuned to their own
unique style. Experience has taught Jesse that each
individual has their own musical gifts. These gifts are
brought out through encouragement and stimulation of creativity.
Jesse has no set curriculum because he believes there is no "one
size fits all" program of guitar instruction. His knowledge of various
playing styles allows for student's freedom: Rock, Blues, Metal,
Jazz, Classical, Folk, Country, Alternative. Jesse is
comfortable and familiar with all these styles thanks to his education
at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and his performance
career with working bands for the last 10 years.
Advanced students can learn from Jesse's improvisational
techniques, understanding of theory concepts, and
stage performance experience. Jesse says, "guitarists
often come to me to step outside of their stylistic comfort zone and try
to learn new ways of seeing their chosen instrument."
He elaborates, "there is no one right way approach learning music.
Sometimes guitarists who have been playing professionally for years
will come to me to learn theory and note reading. Other players will
come just to expand their 'lick' vocabulary."
Guitar lessons are offered either in-studio, or
in-home in the West Portland area. For in-home
lessons please contact to see if you're in Jesse's
teaching area.
